10 May 2021

The first EWS Qualifier to take place in Israel went down in Misgav, in the north of the country, last weekend.

The sell-out event saw 300 riders on the start list at the second round of the Israeli Enduro Series, the nation’s premier enduro competition, with none other than Noga Korem (GT Factory Racing) at the helm.

Despite the searing heat (34°C), riders aged nine to 55 rolled up to the start line with amateurs taking on four stages and the younger racers taking on two to three shorter stages. The more experienced riders took on a full six stages and covered 30km and 1100m of climbing. Two of the stages were built especially for the race, which took place in one of Israel’s most celebrated mountain biking regions.

Racers and spectators were also treated to a best tick competition at the end of the day, with none other than Red Bull’s Claudio Calouri on judging duty. Ori Shamban landed the win with his impressive back flip.

Speaking after the race, Noga said: “We were super happy with how the event played out and are already looking forward to next year's EWS Qualifier race.  Hopefully, in 2022 we will be able to have some EWS riders come and join in on the action.”
