Bike check: Rae Morrison's Liv Intrigue Pro 29

19 November 2020

There are few Enduro World Series pro’s who can match the back catalogue of tricked-out race machines boasted by New Zealand’s Rae Morrison. The Liv Racing rider always arrives at round one with something special adorned with a parts spec that runs just a bit deeper and features just a few more tech nuggets than all the rest. At her first race of the 2020 season at Vittoria EWS Pietra Ligure it was no different!

Here’s Rae to tell us more about her Liv Intrigue Pro 29:

The big talking points are obviously that oh-so-bling custom paint job coupled with the fact that the Nelson local opted for a slightly shorter travel 125mm Intrigue.

Rae is running the latest incarnation of Shimano’s XTR drivetrain. With 12-speeds now available for selection at any and all times via HYPERGLIDE+ shifting it really is ultimate set-up for enduro racing.

Maxxis tyres adorn Rae’s Liv. She’s a big fan of their Minion DHR II model in a 29x2.4in. She runs their Double Down sidewall to help to ward off punctures.

Rae admitted that swapping to the shorter travel Intrigue (compared to Liv’s big-travel brawler, the Hail) was a bit of a gamble but that having DVO onboard meant that it was an easy one to take. She uses their Jade X rear coil shock to help to smooth out the stages.

A smattering of One Up Components parts account for the cockpit. Rae utilises their bar and stem combo alongside their EDC tool which neatly stows inside the steerer tube of her fork.

RevGrips are a stand-out part on Rae’s bikes and produce a wide spread of reactions. The concept is that they separate the rider from some of the impacts coming through the bars via a set of tunable elastomers – in effect, the grips move!
