The 2020 off-season was, like most things in this most turbulent of years, extremely different. The first race week of a new season is traditionally ringed in red on the calendars of the Enduro World Series pro’s but with events around the world constantly shifting at the behest of the Covid-19 pandemic, staying fit, healthy and ready to race became more difficult than ever.
For Giant Factory Off-Road Racing’s resident Frenchman, Youn Deniaud, his time of added preparation had proved to be less than ideal. An ankle injury sustained keeping his race reflexes honed on his BMX bike ended up taking an uncomfortably long time to heal. Could he be back to full strength for his first big race of the year at Vittoria EWS Pietra Ligure?!
The result was just what the rider from Nantes will have hoped for; a superb eighth place - one of his career highest finishes at EWS Pro-level. His speed was still there and, against the backdrop of a challenging (and all-new) Italian venue, it was clear evidence that his maturity between the tapes was continuing to grow.
